T.O. Tidbits – Sunday, March 28th

Here's this week's round-up of the latest local food and restaurant news...

Openings:

  • Long-planned bar and restaurant The Savoy (1166 Queen Street West) opened quietly a couple of weeks ago, and is already packing in the hipsters with various DJ nights and cheap PBR. The food menu is limited while they ramp things up, but expect a full dinner and brunch service to start sometime next month.
  • The food had better be good at What Are You Looking At Bar & Lounge (996 Queen Street East), as the distinctly uninviting name certainly won't be an attraction to most potential customers.
  • The newest location of Smoke's Poutinerie (578 Queen Street West) is now open, quite fittingly at an address that previously held the Westside Tobacco smoke shop.
  • International noodle house chain Ajisen Ramen has opened a third GTA location at 332 Spadina Avenue.

Closings:

  • Winnie and Wilson Shao have closed the 302 Eglinton Avenue West location of their Avenue Seafood fish shop, but the Avenue and Lawrence location remains open.

Changes:

  • The Distillery District location of gourmet grocery store Fresh & Wild is no longer affiliated with the namesake chain, and will soon be rebranded as The Distillery Market (41 Mill Street).

Coming Up:

  • La Boheme (2481 Yonge Street) will be opening soon a few blocks north of Eglinton, and will be serving "authentic French food, pastries, and savories".
  • A second location of Piazzetta Trattoria (936 Eglinton Avenue West) will be opening on April 8th, taking over from the recently closed Sette Mezzo.
  • The awkward off-a-hidden-parking-lot location of No Regrets in Liberty Village was undoubtedly a major factor in its closing last year, so hopefully Vogue Supper Club (42 Mowat Avenue) will have better luck attracting patrons when it opens in the same space.

If you have a scoop to share about the local food & restaurant scene, please let us know so we can include it in a future edition of T.O. Tidbits.

Not only do they have the name going against them but their website is terrible! Why even bother putting it up?

Japhet, you beat me to it. I went to the What Are You Looking At website and it was like traveling back in time to 1996, but worse. I actually checked the date to see if it was April 1 already and this was a joke. In an age of WordPress with free and easy-to-install themes there is simply no excuse for this!
