Here's what's cooking around town today...
France is feeling the competition from the new world and is coming up with a selection of mid-priced wines. [National Post]
Some commenters on yesterday's post about Swiss Chalet's bag policy seem to think I'm a bit of a crank for not wanting to have to dispose of someone else's plastic bag, but the times they are a-changing, folks - some people are even bringing their own mesh produce bags to the grocery stores these days. May all the people who told me "it's just a bag!" find a some of these (and a lump of coal) in their Christmas stocking. [National Post: The Appetizer]
Bare: a way to convince shoppers their food is unadulterated and natural or a synonym for "empty", meaning as a marketing scheme it's kind of vapid? [Homemakers.com: Dana McCauley's Food Blog]
While I wish them well, I am apparently not as excited about the opening of the Hoof Cafe as every other person in the city. That's partially because I don't eat all that much meat, and partially because I look at the images in this article and bemoan what they've done to what was once my beloved Shag Club. (Yes, I am old... shut up.) [Toronto Life: Daily Dish]
Artificial sweeteners are poison - Meghan Telpner tells it like it is. (And takes no shit from riffraff commenters, so be forewarned you trolls!) [Making Love in the Kitchen]
Getting in the mood for Christmas - nothing works better than a clementine. [Tops in Toronto]
And in Food For Thought -food for guns, raw eggs, and foraging in the city. [Save Your Fork]

Yeah but I didn't use the word 'shit'. I should have though.
Sheryl, I love tasteto. I happened to disagree with you yesterday. I don't use the plastic bags for bagging produce at the store, I just put most of it directly in my cart, so that I won't waste a bag. I think wishing coal in my stalking is a bit harsh.
Paul - that wasn't really a reference to you, but to all the folks whose comments *didn't* get published because they were overly insulting/offensive. There are some batshit crazy people out there who apparently really, really, really like their plastic bags.
That's fair Sheryl. I love the internet, but it can be really hard to figure out tone on here. Actually, question for you and/or Meghan - my father's diabetic, so he's started using all the artificial sweetners. Is there an alternative for him? Or should he just cut everything sweet out of his diet?
