Here's this week's round-up of the latest local food and restaurant news...
Openings:
- A second location of fusion-burrito place Chino Locos (459 Church Street) opened a couple of weeks ago.
- Gourmet takeout shop Delica Kitchen (1440 Yonge Street), owned and operated by Devin Connell, daughter of the founders of Ace Bakery, is now open just south of St. Clair.
- After a painfully long reno, Le Papillion on the Park (1001 Eastern Avenue) is finally open and serving such French and Québécois favourites as tortière, steak au poivre, crepes and tarte au sucre.
Closings:
- It appears that BlogTO wasn't crying wolf after all, as the windows at Madras Pantry (877 Queen Street West) are now papered after barely three months of business.
Coming Up:
- Mark McEwan's upcoming new restaurant in the Shops at Don Mills, which we first mentioned last week, will be called Fabbrica, which is Italian for "fabricate". McEwan tells Toronto Life that it will be “true to form, Grandma’s cooking, down on your knees” Italian restaurant with wood-fired pizzas, house-made pastas, and a salami cellar.
- Changes seem to be afoot at the Terroni-owned Osteria Ciceri e Tria (106 Victoria Street), as they've applied for an expansion of their current liquor license under the name La Bettola di Terroni.
- Thanks to TasteTO reader Nicole Scherbina for letting us know that the third location of Burger Shoppe is opening soon at 354 Queen Street West, formerly the home of the late and lamented Stem Open Kitchen.
- Two more upcoming places that we know very little about are Akai (166 Major Street) and Kitchen (1967 Avenue Road).
If you have a scoop to share about the local food & restaurant scene, please let us know so we can include it in a future edition of T.O. Tidbits.
