What’s Cooking – Monday, October 5th

cookingmondayHere's what's cooking around town today...

BC recently passed a law banning trans-fat in all prepared food. Is that a nanny state or a pre-emptive measure against high healthcare costs? [National Post]

Where's the beef? The Beef Information Centre offers new cooking instructions that took them two year to compile. That's a lot of cows. [Cuisine Canada Scene]

Mourning the demise of Gourmet, but I'm not sure I'd blame it on the bloggers - there's not a lot of food blogs out there that live up to the quality and class of Gourmet. [National Post - The Appetizer]

Editor's Note - we've scrapped the monthly Zine Scene column, mostly because there wasn't aways enough to cover. Some months all there was was Toronto Life and frankly, we're not sure if it's because the folks at Toronto Life hate us, if neighbours are stealing our mail, or if the "no perfume strips" clause we have on our subscription causes some bung-ups, but the darn thing rarely ever gets here in a timely fashion, and sometimes not at all. So we'll be including print publications in this column as they show up.

So... y'all should know there's a new issue of Edible Toronto on racks now, as well as online. The Autumn 2009 issue has features on huitlacoche (corn fungus - yum!), small batch preserving, and happy turkeys, plus much more.

Also - I'm still producing the popular Food For Thought column every weekday. This round-up of food-related news from around the world can be found over at my personal blog, Save Your Fork. Go... check it out!
