What’s Cooking – Thursday, September 3rd

cooking4Here's what's cooking around town today...

I don't always agree with Steven Davey on his assessment of Toronto's restaurants, but I will always give him props for calling a spade a spade, because he's easily seen through the hipster facade of Madras Pantry to point out the fact that the dosas are actually crepes, and the stuff is overpriced. For the real deal he heads to Bloor and Christie where Madras Masala serves up dosa the way Krishna intended. [NOW]

As predicted, Toronto's street food cart programme is failing, with some vendors already shutting down due to red tape and micromanagement by city officials. [Eye]

A restaurant for every day of the week? How about letters in the alphabet? Your mileage may vary depending on your personal choices (H is always for Harlem, in my books), but a fun way to explore Toronto's culinary scene nevertheless. [Gremolata]

You may or may not like the Rubino brothers, but you've got to admit, when they open a new restaurant, people sure do talk about it. [Toronto Life Daily Dish]

Got wasps? It could be worse, you could be a fruit-picker. [Not Far From the Tree]

The hot new trend in the UK for food-lovers? Butchery courses. [National Post]
