Men Can Cook
Alexandra Park, 275 Bathurst Street

Celebrated chefs, community leaders and local celebs will take to the grill for Toronto's inaugural Men Can Cook, a community benefit for the Alexandra Park Community Centre. Celebrity chefs will compete for the title of King of the Grill during a competition for Best Barbecue Sauce. The event will also feature a neighbourhood cookout, Kids Zone, skate park, marketplace featuring local vendors and live performances from celebrated acts, including SoulSteel Orchestra, Izlamic and Natasha Waterman.

The Canadian National Exhibition is the largest annual fair in Canada and the fourth largest in North America, attracting approximately 1.3 million visitors each year. The CNE's roots are in agriculture and this continues to be a strong component of the Fair which features a working farm and the Horse Show. Food!: Sink Your Teeth Into Science

Explore the relationship between food and science in a wide variety of mini-experiments and demonstrations throughout the Centre. In support of The Stop Community Food Centre a group of Toronto restaurants have joined forces to present Stop for Food. For the month of August all participating restaurants will be offering locally focused prix fixe menus for $35 or $50 per person, with $5 or $10 being donated directly to The Stop. The Stop Community Food Centre strives to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds community and challenges inequality. The Stop recognizes that confronting hunger must go beyond handing out food to people struggling on low incomes. Through innovative food programs, their aim is to bring people together to break down social isolation and improve quality of life. (Continues to August 31st.)
