We're looking for writers for our newly-created sister site, Beer and Butter Tarts!
We are looking for writers from across Canada who have:
- an excellent knowledge of food
- strong writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar
- exceptional time-management skills
- ability to work with an editor and accept criticism and edits to your work
- access to a digital camera and excellent photography skills, especially with food
- familiarity with blogging software and basic to great Internet skills and knowledge
- ability to follow written instructions
If you think you’ve got what it takes, send us an email that includes:
- a brief paragraph telling us about yourself, your food and/or writing background and why you’d make a great addition to our team
- 3 (three) food writing samples - note that we absolutely cannot consider any applications that do not include food-specific samples - we need to get a feel for your writing style and knowledge of the topic
Here’s what not to do – applications that include any of the following will be disregarded:
- do not send your full resume or CV
- do NOT send your writing samples as file attachments – please cut and paste them into a plain text email, or include URLs
- do not send writing samples that are not about food
- do not send an application telling us that you don't have any food-specific samples - that doesn't help us assess your qualifications
- if you are a blogger sending samples of your blog writing – send us links to three specific posts, not one link to your whole blog – don’t make us work to find your best writing!
Beer and Butter Tarts is a blog-based publication that focuses on quality writing celebrating food in Canada. At present, the site is in Beta mode with no pay offered to writers as the site has no income. Writing positions with us are ideal for anyone looking to write for fun, hone their skills with a hard-nosed editor, or diversify their writing portfolio; not for career freelancers looking to earn enough to live on.
