Food For Thought – Wednesday, May 6th

thoughtwednesdayHere's some food for thought for today...

  • You can have your $30,000 streetfood wagons - I'm holding out until Toronto gets a creme brulee cart. I'm serious.
  • How long could you go without processed foods? Depends on what you consider "processed".
  • We know that meat quality can be affected if the animals are stressed, which occurs during transport - so the creation of a mobile slaughter unit should make for better-tasting meat.
  • Most of us don't get enough fruit, here's a list of excuses explanations as to why.
  • I've never been a fan of calculating food miles (because it's pretty much impossible), but now there's a paper that seems to indicate that cutting out red meat could make even more difference that just choosing local products.
  • Lovely plump chicken breasts are not nearly as "healthy" as they appear - info on how they get so "juicy" and consistently-sized, as well as some more products that are not as healthy as you might think.
  • And finally, if this keeps up, I won't be able to complain about the pollution from the Indy anymore - a race car made from vegetables that runs on waste chocolate and vegetable oil.
