Rag Round-Up – Thursday, April 2nd

newsboy.jpgThis week at NOW, Steven Davey checks out Reggie's Old Fashioned Sandwiches, a new 24-hour sandwich shop at King & Portland. While the grub suffices, service is slow, but some of the combos sound enticing. Davey's also got a quickie interview with Dinah Koo of Dinah's Soup Kitchen. Graham Duncan sips a Bouchard Pere & Fils Macon-Lugny St-Pierre 2007.

It's interesting to note that we're not the only ones who find the food at lounges to usually be sub-par. Alan A. Vernon and Sean Kelly Keenan of Eye visit out The Local Company and aren't all that impressed.

Restaurants like the Local have popped up all over town. Their intentions are good, but once they see that they can make more pouring shmancy drinks on a Friday and Saturday night, food becomes just an annoying afterthought. And that, we fear is what’s happening here. Local may be a great hangout on weekends, but eat before you go.

At Metro, Peter Rockwell tries some New Zealand wines, there's a recipe for rice pilaf with dried fruit; tandoori quesadillas from the book Everyday Indian; and Barb Holland makes lazy lasagna.
