Here's some food for thought for today...
- Food in Canada may be a different price, depending on where you live. The Heart and Stroke Foundation found that while junk food is consistently priced across the country, prices for fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, and bread can vary widely.
- Even more disturbing, the same study found differences in prices within Toronto and the GTA, with fresh food costing more in lower-income areas like Jane and Finch as opposed to wealthier neighbourhoods like Thornhill where fresh stuff is cheaper.
- Learning how to cook might just be the trick to eating well and staying healthy. Britain's got the right idea with compulsory cooking classes for kids.
- Not an issue in Canada where our milk is already rbGH-free, but here's a big ol' "It's about time!!!" to Yoplait who have finally promised to switch to rbGH-free milk for their yogurt in the US. It seems their promotion of breast cancer-awareness campaigns while using a product full of hormones linked to breast cancer was sending out the wrong message. Do ya think?
- The wrong type of client - UK chef Marco Pierre White thinks restaurants that offer discounts or specials to get bums in seats might attract some riff-raff.
- It's just a little furry, it's okay, it's okay! - Canadians who diligently check and refuse food past or close to expiry dates in supermarkets are more than happy to consume foods past their best before dates from their own fridge. Seriously, who among us hasn't scraped off the mold and eaten it anyway?
- And finally, the hottest food blog on teh intarwebs right now - This is Why You're Fat. Terrifying - like a car wreck that you can't stop staring at.
