Here's some food for thought for today...
- Ah, to be in England where at least supermarket shoppers have the choice to buy free-range chicken.
- Preventative care - CSA members in Wisconsin could get rebates from their health insurance providers for choosing healthy produce.
- Similarly, a program in Texas that offers farmers market vouchers to the Hispanic community (who are more at risk for dietary health concerns such as diabetes) is getting fruit and veg on tables where only carbs and junkfood existed previously.
- Would you like a little mercury poisoning with that soda? Another reason to avoid foods made with high-fructose corn syrup - most of the stuff is tainted with mercury.
- Think veggie versions of typical frozen meals are all crap? Think again, some of them beat the meatier competition in taste tests. But remember, soy is not all it's cracked up to be.
- That brown cloud over Asia? Not made from as much auto-based fossil fuels as previously assumed. Instead, it's most created by burning wood and biomass (ie. dung) for cooking fuel and agriculture. Whoops.
- And finally, Virgin takes bad airline food to a new level. One passenger makes sure Richard Branson knows of his disappointment.
