Here's all the good stuff from the papers today...
Toronto Star:
- Consider the eggplant - it's good in so many ways, not just breaded and fried or in baba ganoush.
- Everyone's singing the praises of induction cooktops.
- The Drake is offering a new comfort food menu complete with blue plate specials.
- Divine inspiration can be found in a bottle of Koningshoeven Quadrupel.
Toronto Sun:
- Everybody is wondering who will be the next White House chef. Ever get the impression we're all putting way to much pressure on Mr. Obama about... well, everything? Especially what he eats.
- The sales of onions, parsley and wooden spoons are up, which means people must be cooking more.
- And for those who have no clue what to do with parsley and a wooden spoon, Loblaws is offering cooking classes.
National Post:
- Eat your gruel - Oliver Twist's main meal is plain but some Londoners who were invited to sample it thought it was tasty.
- Amy Rosen counts calories deliciously at Four.
- Nifty kitchen tips.
Globe and Mail:
- Tips on dumpster diving for food. (I source these items online - obviously - but I can't help picturing this article in the print version next to one of those Tiffany's ads the Globe always runs for $10,000 necklaces. And if I hit refresh, eventually I get the sidebar ad for the Mercedes. Ha!)
- Who is responsible for inebriated customers at a bar?
- Choose Madeira to toast the new US President. (I can't be the only one waiting for the time when Canadians have a leader worth raising a glass to.)
- More on what Obama eats.
- The rest of us? It's winter, it's cold and we're eating comfort food.
- And Massimo Capra's comfort food is pasta bolognese. This is the recipe they use at his restaurant Mistura, and I can vouch for its deliciousness.
