This week at NOW, Steven Davey celebrates the ladies with reviews of both Anne Yarymowich's Frank at the AGO and Donna Dooher's Mildred's Temple Kitchen (note - due to a production issue, the review of Temple is not in the print edition of the paper). Both chefs have plenty of compliments for each other (Yarymowich once worked for Dooher) and Davey has compliments - and also some critique - of each place, although his review doesn't cover dessert at Frank, which was, during my visit, possibly the best part of the meal. Graham Duncan sips some whisky from Alberta.
Over at Eye, Alan A. Verson and Sean Kelly Keenan have an odd experience at Gilead Cafe when a server demonstrates some inappropriate personal hygiene choices before touching the food. They enjoy the food anyway.
Barb Holland has a "book buffet" this week at Metro with a selection of great reads (or gifts) for foodies. Also - tips on having happy and healthy holidays, a recipe for braised beef with carmelized root vegetables, and steak skewered with onions.
