Here's some food for thought for today...
- Consumer groups in Italy tried to stage a not-especially well-received "bread strike" across that country yestrday to protest the rising cost of staple foods, such as bread.
- PETA recently infiltrated an Iowa hog farm and filmed mistreatment and abuse of animals there. The National Pork Producers Council in the US has issued a statement indicating that the mistreatment that took place does not reflect the industry as a whole. OK... sure. That they tried to turn the situation around on PETA for not reporting the incident in a timely manner is the real kicker.
- Torontoist recaps the From the Ground Up lecture from this past Wednesday.
- Some thoughts on molecular gastronomy. Don't miss the comments - I guarantee dog owners will never look at foam the same way again.
- And some more molecular gastronomy talk as Anthony Bourdain responds to comments regarding the tasting menu discussion at the Chefs Congress.
- Lard regains its former popularity.
- And finally, former Sex Pistols front man Johnny (Lydon) Rotten reveals just how much of a money-hungry whore he's become as the new spokesperson for a brand of British butter. So much for the anarchy, eh, John?
