Here's a round-up of the food & drink articles in Toronto's papers today...
Toronto Star:
- Corey Mintz probably would've enjoyed Madeline's much more if they hadn't been trying so hard to get rid of him.
- Gord Stimmell raves about three wines that most of us won't be able to afford, but makes up for it with recommendations for five more reasonably priced whites in today's Vintages release.
- Mark Bittman visits and shares some recipes from La Zucca Magica, a vegetarian restaurant in France (wait, isn't that an oxymoron?).
- Jeremy Ferguson travels to Terrace at B.C.'s Mission Hill Winery, recently named one of the six best winery restaurants in the world.
- Cameron Smith profiles Wendy Banks, a woman in the Thousand Islands area who was inspired by the environmental illness she developed from working in a pesticide-filled greenhouse to start a business delivering local and organic produce to local restaurants and individuals.
National Post:
- Gina Mallet gives a mixed review to chef Andrea Nicholson at 35 Elm.
- Margaret Swaine finds a lot of great bargain wines from around the world in today's Vintages release.
- Jon Bricker and Kate Swoger enjoy some fancy dim sum at Casa Victoria in Markham.
- Adam McDowell pulls up a stool for a chat with David Brown, bar manager at The Drake.
- A multi-page feature on a day at Trinity-Bellwoods Park includes a look at the food being enjoyed by a few park visitors.
- Dale Rice is taught to make Chinese dumplings by a family in Beijing.
- Bonnie Stern cooks with ingredients and recipes from Ile d'Orleans, a bountiful island near Quebec City.
- John Hiscock reports that American weight loss "experts" are calling on Hollywood to put an "O for Obesity" rating on films that feature scenes of "excessive eating". There have been no calls, however, of a "A for Anorexia" rating on films that feature excessively skinny actresses.
Globe & Mail:
- Beppi Crosariol continues to be mad about malbec.
- Laura Serra visits with The Green Fairy at The Ossington.
- Amy Verner previews MoRoCo Chocolat, a chi-chi "chocolate boutique" set to open soon in Yorkville.
- Sue Riedl pigs out in Barcelona, a city known for having some of the best ham in the world.
- Gemma Bowes visits several fledgling wineries in India in a wire service article not online on the Globe website, but available via the website of the Guardian where it originally ran.
