The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday July 14th

Here's what's been happening on the intarwebs this week...

Tim checks out Loons over at BlogTO, and reports back that it's fairly mediocre. And because BlogTO's restaurant reviews tend to show up as "announcements" in my RSS feed, I think I've been missing a few of their recent ones, like here where there's two together. And although not restaurant specific, Greg has a post about those stupid obnoxious Yellow Pages darts that are popping up all over the city - like on the front of Grappa. Maybe it's some kind of lightening rod thing to help ground and thus ward off the kiss of death they received by appearing on Restaurant Makeover.

Also at BlogTO, Jerrold checks out the Toronto Night Market - during the day, while at Spotlight Toronto, Suresh drops by at night. And what is up with all the pissy commenters on the Spotlight Toronto piece calling "copycat" because BlogTO also covered the event? There's not some magic rule that says media outlets can call dibs on an event taking place in the city. That's the great thing about there being so many blogs, magazines, etc - different perspectives. BlogTO - it's great that your readers are so devoted, but that's a bit embarrassing, no?

Spotlight Toronto also covers the Tasty Thursdays event at Nathan Phillip Square (we were there but had buyer's remorse, so no coverage from us), as well as lunch at Peridot.

At Torontoist, Julie digs in to piles of samosas (and oh, look, whiny and complaining commenters here as well), and Kevin has a post about the upcoming Golden Tap awards (hmmm, given that one of our publishers is the news editor at Bar Towel, the host of the Golden Taps, you'd think *we* might have a post about the Golden Taps... d'oh!!).

Victoria has a strawberry spinach salad at BlogUT, and Eric's also got some greens at Menumental.

At Gremolata, Christine drinks up Manhattan, Noelle interviews some local chefs about seasonality, and Lorette has trouble with soy.

And although it's not a Toronto-based blog, this post at The Ethicurean about the treatment of meatpacking workers is a must-read.

Hey Sheryl - we have an RSS feed specific for our review sections. You can add it here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogtoreviews

Not sure what's up with the commenters who posted copycat on Spotlight Toronto. I think ST did a great job with the post. Amazing photos. The more coverage for Toronto events like this the better as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not holding BlogTO responsible for any random commentors who feel the need to start shit on the web. So no worries on that. I think everything that needs to be said here has been said between Sheryl and Tim.
I've seen similar types of comments on blogto and torontoist (as mentioned above), and really, as long as we have an open comment system it will continue to happen in some form.

Let's just do what we do best.

ps. thanks for taking the time to address it.
