The Toronto Star fulfils our sweet tooth this week with a whole pile of articles about sweet stuff. To start us off, Pamela Cuthbert checks out Xococava, the new chocolate shop by Chris MacDonald of Cava. Kim Honey explores the world of cake and frosting with a piece on Frostitution and their X-rated and fetish-based cakes, as well as an article on divorce cakes, a trend that has yet to catch on here in Toronto.

Also in the Star, Cuthbert has another piece, this one featuring Ruth Klassen and Monforte Dairy. Rob Ferguson reports on a proposal to change the silly rules that govern the signage for roadside farm stands and on the popularity of farmer's markets. And Gord Stimmell looks at Aussie wines perfect for the hot summer weather.

At the Toronto Sun, Rita DeMontis has the winners of the Mott's cocktail recipe contest, as well as a recipe for a Canada Day martini cocktail. She also reports on what is sure to be the most popular of Summerlicious events - Dinner in the Sky, and profiles Gourmantra, step-by-step Indian cooking kits with spices. Elizabeth Baird has info on La Fromagerie, real cinnamon and other good stuff in her weekly round-up.

Beer geeks probably already knew that Victoria BC is (one of) the best place(s) in Canada to grab a pint of local brew (parenthesis mine, so as to keep the local beer fans appeased), but Adam McDowell makes sure everyone knows it in the National Post. Also, Matt Dunigan recommends salmon on the grill for Canada Day, Amy Rosen gets comfortable with the mac and cheese at Catering With Style, and the Appetizer blog has used beer and origami for sandwiches.

The Globe and Mail seems to have a lot of west coast pieces today, and while it's unlikely that we'll be going crabbing here in Toronto any time soon, Julia McKinnell's piece about the hands-on crab workshop is still interesting, as is Sarah Bancroft's Crab Fest party article. And while crabs and lobster are sometimes referred to as "bugs of the sea", Chef Vikran Vij cooks up another kind of bug - crickets. Apparently they make a nice paratha... no, really. And Alexandra Gill visits a yoshoku restaurant in Vancouver where they serve up Japanese versions of western dishes - with lots of mayo.

Also at the Globe, Craig Forrest is the Sunday Dinner guest, Gerry Shikatani checks out Katahdin lamb in Ottawa, Cecily Ross congratulates Trish Magwood on her James Beard award, and Leslie Beck has bad news for sufferers of gout - no beer for you! No meat either - nobody said gout was fun, did they?
