The Cookbook Store is 25! Who knew? This week at the Toronto Star, Julia Aitkin celebrates with store manager Alison Fryer, who spills the beans on all those celebrity chefs. There's also some fun sidebars where Fryer and sidekick Jennifer Grange list their Top 10 cookbooks and 10 worst food trends (low-carb, low-fat, and the 100-mile diet).

Also at the Star, after a slow start with her CSA box, Kim Honey compares prices and finds the cost of the first sparse box was equal to or less than the cost of buying the same items at a regular or upscale grocery store. Which means come tomato season, a CSA share definitely works out to a better deal. Sunny Freeman previews the Spadina House strawberry tea, and has info on the First Fruits of Spring Festival. And Josh Rubin sips a Chapeau Lemon Lambic which he deems to be "a little odd, but it works".

At the Toronto Sun, Rita DeMontis talks with Chef Mario Batali about his new cookbook and TV show and his recent weight loss. DeMontis also has a piece on something called YoPro, with is a high-protein frozen yogurt. Also - free curry! The Sun previews Chef Marty Gatlin's Currylicious - a giant curry festival this Sunday at Harbourfront with free curry and naan, plus music and keynote speeches from local food activists. Elizabeth Baird's got strawberry info as well as recipes, including one for "strawberry poppers" which sounds intriguing.

Mat Dunigan is still BBQing at the National Post; this week he's all about the ribs. Amy Rosen writes from the Dominican Republic where she enjoys sancocho, a traditional Dominican stew.

And at the Globe and Mail, Chef Normand Laprise finds that lobster season has morphed into crab season, Sue Reidl enjoys a tomme-style Le Sieur de Duplessis cheese from New Brunswick, and - bad news for the ice cream truck driver - Leslie Beck points out that summertime treats can cause weight gain in kids. Beppi Crosariol reports on a swank Niagara wine event that drew celebrities and raised lots of money for some worthy charities.
