The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday, June 16th

I’m not really here. I’m off today with the good folks at the Gladstone Hotel to visit Chick-A-Biddy Acres CSA and write an article about their upcoming Harvest Wednesdays series, where I will do my best to not steal a chicken and bring it home as a pet. In any case, this all means that the post you’re reading was actually written on Sunday, so if I’m missing stuff that has been posted in the past 24 hours, rest assured, it will be included next week.

Speaking of chicken, and other meat, Greg at BlogTO previews the grand opening of the Healthy Butcher on Eglinton West, and Tim reports on the first day sell-out at Caplansky’s deli.

In the decidely “not meat” category, Julie at Torontoist compares edamame.

At Spotlight Toronto, Suresh enjoys Sri Lankan cuisine at Luxmy Restaurant, and the nice view on the Jack Astor’s patio.

Eric Vellend of Menumental bemoans the distance that his residential move will put between him and Gio Rana’s Really, Really Nice Restaurant.

Gremolata’s got a piece on food in Saint John New Brunswick, and Noelle writes about rare culinary herbs.

At Toronto Life, David previews a bunch of upcoming wine events and predicts 2007 will be a great vintage for Ontario whites.

    Thanks!

So…I heard you guys were at the Distillery Luminato Food orgy? How was it?

Hey Suresh, it was great! I’ve got photos at Save Your Fork.

I did hear that people who arrived later found that some of the restaurants had packed up and gone home by 3pm. I talked to Ted Corrado who said they were only there until 3, but I didn’t really get whether he meant more C5 people would be coming to replace him so the current group could go set up for dinner service, or whether they were all just packing up mid-afternoon. So people who showed up later might not have had the same options we did at 1pm.

I was there around 2ish and heard one of the restaurants (forget which) loudly proclaim they were the first to sell out for the day.
