This week, Dana McCauley is asking readers to join her in a boycott of restaurants that serve shark fin soup, pointing out the cruelty and destruction the desire for this dish is causing. It means giving up a couple of my favourite Chinatown haunts, but as shark-finning is a practice that I find completely reprehensible, I'm all in.
Marusya of Recipes For Trouble explains how her mother is losing her sense of taste and how it's thrown a wrench into a lifetime of cooking and food loving.
At Garlicster, Maria reviews the book Comfort Food; Alana of Wasabi Cowgirl reviews B Restaurant; and Greg of Beer, Beats and Bites recaps the Southern Tier Beer dinner. And Jason at Chow on Chow looks at how wine drinkers seldom trust their palates and go for the expensive wine just because of the price tag.
In recipe posts, there's spaghetti alla puttanesca at Closet Cooking, cannelloni at Cream Puffs in Venice, and nostalgic morels (and a tart) at Jumbo Empanadas. Megan the Vegan has corncakes with stewed blackbeans, and we celebrate the first asparagus of the year at Seasonal Ontario Food with asparagus with lemon-pepper butter.

Sheryl, thanks for spreading the word about shark finning.
