For decades, The Junction neighbourhood had been home to one of Toronto’s longest running vegetarian restaurants. The Vegetarian Restaurant (they weren’t real creative back in the 70s, apparently) was a fixture on this section of the Dundas West strip, and when it closed a couple of years ago, locals were sorely disappointed. But many people have stepped in to fill the void, and this week at NOW, in part to celebrate Earth Day, Steven Davey takes a trip to the ‘hood to check out the many eco-friendly shops and restaurants that have popped up. The main jist of the piece is a review of Agora, but The Beet, Sweet Potato, Delight Chocolate and others all garner a mention. Also at NOW, Graham Duncan tries some eco-friendly wine and discusses cork-recycling in his Drink Up column.

At Eye, there’s a lovely (but uncredited) piece about the organization Not Far From the Tree, which works to redistribute and share backyard tree fruit that owners don’t know what to do with.

Metro has a Reuters piece about foodie destinations around the world, Billy Munnelly recommends some Spanish wines, and Marcy Cornblum interviews chef David Adjey about his 800 cookbooks.
