Rag Round-Up - Thursday, April 3rd

newsboy.jpgOh noes! Susur is leaving Toronto - part 2. We are now tied at 2-2 in the debate over whether Susur Lee’s namesake restaurant will reopen without him at the helm. Steven Davey of NOW sides with Shinan Govani of the National Post in stating that there are no plans to reopen the restaurant after its May 31st closing, while the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail indicate the space will be renovated and will reopen in July. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Place yer bets.

Also at NOW, Davey reviews Alice’s Restaurant where the chef is used to cooking for tourists and plays it safe in the kitchen. Graham Duncan sips a Bitburger in his Drink Up column.

Over at Metro, they’ve reformatted their website and screwed up my round-up system, but good. But once I poke around a bit, there’s a piece on selecting a BBQ (warm weather! sunshine!! OMG!!!), tricks to making bland imported “off-season” strawberries palatable (why? Just wait a couple of months for the good ones!), and a “sexy” shiraz in Billy Munnelly’s column where the wine writer admits he prefers the lighter reds. Also this week, Ted Dykstra is the foodie interview.

At Eye, Alan Vernon and Sean Keenan Kelly review Nyood.
