The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday, March 3rd

webapple.jpgCoffee. Cawfee. Koffeeeee. This week, the Toronto blogs are all about a plain ol' cup of Joe. First up, Torontoist offers up some Snappy Answers on places to get a decent cup that are also passably quiet and won't cost an arm and a leg. There's also a post on how Country Style, in a rebranding effort to attract a more upscale clientèle (well, maybe more upscale than their current clientèle), is running a special all week in which they offer a free medium coffee to customers who bring in a Tim's cup with a "please try again" message under the rim.

BlogTO also has a piece about the Country Style promotion, in which Jerrold theorizes that it might help to get some of the excess litter so prevalent with the "roll up" contests off our streets. Great alternatives in the comments section for this post, as well as the ongoing "Tim's is crap", "No, you are a snob" debate. Jerrold's also got posts on the best cheap and best splurge sushi in Toronto. Meanwhile Tim reviews Reposado, and there's a review of the Bow & Arrow by "self-proclaimed beer authority" Tatiana. Except that she doesn't actually talk about the beers she's had other than to name them, so I'm not sure I'm gonna take her word on her level of expertise.

At Menumental, Eric Vellend makes Quebecois pea soup ("...down yer leg and in yer boot.") Okay, he didn't add the song, that was all me.

Dana McCauley has a whole bunch of info on food fads and trends at Gremolata that make me want to buy a sniper rifle and go on a rampage in the middle aisles of a supermarket, so let's just remind everyone of Michael Pollan's advice to eat real food and to avoid anything with a health claim on the label. In the wine pages, Malcolm Jolley reviews 2003 Cave de Tain Crozes Hermitage, and there's a piece from a back issue on gai lan (aka Chinese cabbage).

At Toronto Life, James Chatto describes the food and technique used by chef Patrick Lin on his new menu at Senses. (We'll have a piece on Senses new menu tomorrow.) Also at Toronto Life, David Lawrason works his way through the March 1st Vintages release of burgundies, watching for (and avoiding) some pinot noirs that are less than stellar.

I think the beer article was all about the attention grabbing title.

So did anyone blog about the Pollan lecture, I'm dying for some sort of review since I wasn't able to attend it myself

    (you missed us)

I was at the Pollan lecture and have a blog post in the works, but haven't had a chance yet. Greg's hard drive fried on Friday night and in a true test of our marital bliss, we've been sharing a computer.

And sorry about missing you this week, but sweet sassy molassy man, please set up an RSS feed of your site. It's the only way I remember to include stuff.

Wait Suresh, nevermind.... I wrote the post before your stuff was published. The Musings stuff I do have on RSS feed, but as I did the write-up early this morning, your stuff hadn't gone up yet. I'll add it next week.
