Rag-Round-Up - Thursday, February 7th

Maybe it’s the strong anti-traditional attitude I’ve had for most of my life, but I am admittedly one of those folks who find Valentine’s Day mostly tacky. Red roses don’t move me, diamonds make me sad, and chocolate from those heart-shaped boxes tastes so much better if you buy it marked down to half-price on February 15th. So the idea of going out to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day makes me very, very scared.
I’m in the minority, however, and folks still looking for a place to have that romantic dinner need look no further than this week’s rags. The whole restaurant critic team at Eye have compiled a list of their “Top 10 date restaurants, guaranteed to get you laid (or at least loved) this Valentine’s Day.” And while the sentiment might not be classy, most of the selection is.
At NOW, Steven Davey’s got his own list of romantic restaurants, with a varied mix for every taste and budget. There’s also a nod to Chinese New Year with Davey’s review of China House, and Graham Duncan’ review of Kom Jug Yuen (aka. The Jug). Duncan also sips some Asian brews such as Tsingtao and rice wine for his Drink Up column.
Over at Metro, Chef Marc Thuet talks about chocolate and what to look for in a good chocolate bar. Meanwhile, Rick McGinnis reviews Vertical, and Chef Paul Finkelstein is the foodie interview of the week.
