Blog-A-Log - Saturday, January 26th

blog3.jpgSo it’s conclusive, cold weather = great blogging, as we’ve got another selection of really great and interesting posts this week from Toronto food bloggers.

At Blog From Our Kitchen, Elizabeth continues on her quest for perfect sourdough bread, experimenting on something less sour. To go with that bread, Jasmine of Confessions of a Cardamom Addict explores the restorative properties of jam.

Tracy of Fear and Loathing in the Kitchen gets a letter from the folks at one of our favourite companies, Bubbie’s. And in between home improvement concerns, Brilynn of Jumbo Empanadas (who needs to give her landlord a smack by the sounds of things) finds time to whip up a loaf of awesome-looking challah.

Gina Mallet reports on the raw milk debate as it’s playing out in the UK.

There are step-by-step photo instructions on how to make an Opera Cake, by Eric at Do You Know the Muffin Man? And Megan the Vegan proves she’s no slouch in the kitchen either with homemade vegan breakfast links (which look waaaay better that the rubbery store-bought ones).

And finally, someone who won’t be cooking anything too fancy for a while is Marusya at Recipes For Trouble, as revealed in her post about cooking with one hand. Hope you heal fast!

(Correction: In last week’s Blog-A-Log, I took issue with a quote by author Michael Pollan which stated “Don’t eat anything your grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food”. This bothered me because my Grandmother’s generation was actually the first to embrace the evil that we now know as “convenience foods”. Having recently completed Pollan’s new book, In Defense of Food, I realize that he was misquoted by the blogger. The correct statement is “Don’t eat anything that your GREAT Grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food”. Pollan cites the same reasons I gave in my diatribe - that we need to go back further than the generation of 1950s housewives to find “real” food. I promise to be more diligent at my fact-checking in the future.)

Apologies from Cathy (THE NUTRITIONISTA) for miss-typing. Thank you to Sheryl for pointing it out … as a good editor should.
