Yes, for those of you keeping track, this is a day late. My hands were falling off yesterday (carpal tunnel in both hands, baybee, with the EMG taser bruises to prove it), and sitting down to write lately has made me cry. A good dose of ibuprofin and some magic lotion and I'm sort of good to go. But it's point form today kids, sorry.
At Gremolata, chef Nancy Hinton gives the nod to Leonard Cohen, the Gremotraveller goes to Victoria, Dean Tudor does some book reviews just in time for the holidays, and Malcolm Jolley reviews 2001 Château Monbazillac.
James Chatto digs into British restaurant critic A.A. Gill's new book at Toronto Life, and David Lawrason wassails in Price Edward County.
Black Dog Pub is the local at Eye this week, as reviewed by Kevin Kennedy.
Posted Toronto is keeping on top of the story of the cheap-ass rent Micky Dee's is paying to the City of Toronto for the space on Bloor West across from the ROM.
Torontoist has another food challenge, just in time for the holidays, with a selection of boxed chocolates. Of course, the cranks are out in full force complaining that writer Julie Reitsma should be covering local shops, but that sort of misses the point. And incidentally Julie, Pot of Gold never used to suck back in the day when it was owned by Moirs. Those fuckers at Hershey were the ones who pulled all the good fillings and dragged the brand downhill. (On a sidenote - the Halifax Hershey's factory that makes Pot of Gold will shut down this month when Hershey moves its operations - likely to Mexico.)
And finally, at BlogTO, Tim previews A Table In Heaven - it ran for one night only as part of Doc Soup, but it strikes me as ones of those films the CBC will pick up for the documentary series at some point. Also at BlogTO, Vanessa reviews Midi Bistro, and Tanja hits the Free Times Cafe for latkes, which I always find disappointing.
