Blog-A-Log - Friday, November 30th

Have you started shopping yet? If you’re still looking for gift ideas for the foodies on your list, Brilynn at Jumbo Empanadas has a great gift selection post on her blog this week. There’s everything from zesters to vanilla beans.
Gina Mallet is starting a campaign to bring back happy hour over at her blog, and she’s got some convincing reasons why Toronto needs to partake is this most jubilant of traditions.
At Cream Puffs in Venice, Ivonne is baking bread; yummy yummy potato bread.
The Candied Quince travels to scenic Port Dover and has some of the town’s famous apple fritters.
And I’m in total drool-mode over the yuzu chocolates Eric has created at Do You Know the Muffin Man?
And finally, Ian at We Eat Toronto has nothing very nice to say about my beloved Island Foods. He doesn’t think the long line-ups are worth it. Maybe it’s just the locations he’s visiting - the Parkdale location has never done me wrong.
Hey food bloggers - do you know of other Toronto food bloggers not on our links list or not getting mentioned in our round-ups? Send them my way! Also, we’ll be starting up a new Toronto food blogger feature in January. If you’re willing to be interviewed about your blog, please drop me a line.

With so many excellent food blogs, I’m a little surprised by the mention of We Eat Toronto, where the blogger’s ideal dinner is a Whopper (which of course can be had just about anywhere in North America), and President’s Choice (which again can be had far from Toronto) is worthy of umpteen entries. What’s more, Ian scraped meat off of a corned beef sandwich - the first, admittedly, he’d ever had.
This lame blog appears to be nothing more than what the writer had for dinner, and what’s more, the writer doesn’t eat particulary interesting food.

Hey Douglas,
You sound as if you have some sort of personal grudge against Ian. If that’s the case, please take it somewhere else. If that’s not the case, please at least be less rude to our writers and to the people we’re writing about - unless you’d like to see yourself banned from commenting here.
My decision to include Ian’s post was wholly based on the fact that he wrote about Island Foods, a Toronto-based small restaurant chain. I wouldn’t have included a blog post about a fast food place.
Also, although I may disagree with his menu choices - both in terms of his comments about Island Foods and whatever opinion he has on Burger King - he is most certainly entitled to voice his opinions in his own blog. Most food blogs, in case you hadn’t noticed, are mostly about what the writer had for dinner. That’s why in this column I try and find stuff that is at least interesting and provocative.
Now play nice or find yourself banned.
