Rag Round-Up - Thursday, November 22nd

newsboy.jpgMaybe it's just coincidence, because I certainly hope we're not going through another one of those "Parkdale is so hip" phases again, but both of the rags feature Parkdale restaurants this week.

Corey Mintz at Eye visits Parkdale favourite M&B Yummy, an Ethiopian restaurant where the food is fine and the portions are huge.

But nothing could’ve prepared us for what followed: the largest serving platter we’ve ever seen, filled with Ethiopian delights. The mammoth plate ($15), maybe 20 inches across, bears a sampling for two that could probably feed four.

I've shared a single order with another person and still left stuffed. It would be a great deal even if the food was mediocre.

Over at NOW, Steven Davey also reports on M&B Yummy in his Fresh Dish column, remarking on their recent renovation. Davey's in the 'Dale to check out sandwich shop Salvador Darling, though he seems to have missed my favourite item on the menu - the chicken sandwich with brie and pear. (Come to think of it, I might need one of these for lunch tomorrow.) Davey also makes it up to the Dundas & Roncesvalles intersection to check out B Cafe.

Also in NOW, Graham Duncan suggests Canadian whiskey for Grey Cup sipping (how refined!), and Wayne Roberts explores the issues of selling local at the supermarket.

At Metro, Laurie Wilson has tips for keeping the cholesterol in check in the face of holiday treats, Billy Munnelly celebrates Pinot Noir, and Aonghus Kealy is asking Santa for some Innis and Gunn oak-aged ale. And Rick McGinnis reviews Coppi Ristorante's white truffle menu, and lists the cost as $100 for dinner for two - this seems exceptionally low, but count me in if it's correct.
