Rag Round-Up - Thursday, November 8th

newsboy.jpgHungrier than the average bear, this week Steven Davey of NOW heads north to Eglinton to fill his pic-a-nic basket at theme restaurant Picnic, where he refers to the eatery as "upscale", but goes on to describe typical picnic food, served tapas-style. (Dear Toronto, can we officially declare the "little plates" schtick done? Please??)

Meanwhile Graham Duncan heads north as well to Salad Spa, which is pretty much just, you know, a salad restaurant, with nothing actually spa-like about it. (Dear Toronto, since we're making a list, can we also cool it on the spas? Especially ones that are not spas but are really restaurants?) Duncan also looks at some "celebrity wines" in his Drink Up column, giving Mike Weir a thumbs up, and Wayne Gretzky a thumbs down. The amusing part - both wines are made at the same winery. (And if I can add to my wish list just once more, Toronto... you know... xnay on the famous people plonk, mmkay?)

Over at Eye, Corey Mintz is feeling Seoul-ful, as he visits Seoul City where modernized Korean fare meets with his approval.

They're looking ahead to Christmas at Metro where Laurie Wilson attends the media release for the largest President's Choice Insider's holiday collection ever. There's goodies from all over the world (hope that dim sum is better than the PC sushi!) and even Christmas dinner in a can for Rover! Wilson also taste-tests a number of products.

Also in Metro there's a recipe for Crab and Cream Cheese dip, tips for baking success when working on those holiday cookies, and the celebrity food interview this week is... Richard Lewis?? He's still around?

Aonghus Kealy has two articles this week, one in which he tours the Moosehead brewery in New Brunswick, and the other in which he reviews Spitfire Premium Bitter, named after the WW2 plane. And Billy Munnelly recommends some wines perfect for gift-giving.

I don't know why the powers that be at PC thought that sushi would be a good idea. *shudder*
    (Yes, I've tried it.)
