Rag Round-Up - Thursday, October 25th

newsboy.jpgThe gastro-pubs are coming! And no, they're not just sports bars with fancy food. Or are they? Steven Davey of NOW visits Veritas, and despite the fact that it's run by noted chefs Brad Long and Deron Engbers, Davey's not able to get over the sporty decor and plasma screens, and gives it only two Ns. Graham Duncan looks at a red from Italy, a white from France and a big-ass fridge-sized personal keg of Heineken. Yikes.

At Eye, Corey Mintz channels his inner university student and checks out a number of local pizzerias to see who has the best slice.

Over at Metro, just in time for Halloween Marcy Cornblum explores the scary world of pre-mixed cocktails (okay, I added the "scary" part), and there's directions to build a haunted gingerbread house - this piece has a reference to a photo that does not appear in the online version, but think Christmas gingerbread, only with black frosting. There's also an interview with Trish Magwood about cocktail parties for the holidays (awwww, crap... is it the holidays already?), and Rick McGinnis sips some $30,000 Balvenie whisky.

Metro is now running some foodie interviews with celebrities, and this week feature Nikki Payne (who likes Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and S'mores) and Toronto Maple Leafs' Darcy Tucker (who really, really likes turkey). And finally, Aonghus Kealy enjoys a dark wheat beer, and Billy Munnelly explores some old-style wines.

Not just any "dark wheat beer", but Aventinus - perhaps the best beer the LCBO sells!!

However, your link is wrong. (It brings up a Darcy Tucker article - ack!!!!!) It should be http://www.metronews.ca/column.aspx?id=85384 .

    Thanks,
    Shawn
