They say great minds think alike, so our own Erin Letson must have something in common with Toronto Star food writer Susan Sampson. Sampson's piece today is all about gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, something Letson covered here on TasteTO a couple of weeks ago.
Also in the Star, Jennifer Bain carves up a jack-o-melon, and interviews chef Joshna Maharaj of Stop Community Kitchen. Tamsym Burgmann reviews Zum Linzer, an Austrian-German restaurant in Hamilton, Sonia Day cooks up some green tomatoes, and Gordon Stimmell spotlights Ontario's best buys.
At the Toronto Sun, Rita DeMontis is preparing for World Pasta Day (tomorrow) with an article about Canadian durum wheat (which is so good it gets used for pasta in Italy), and a bunch of recipes - plus the news that Coppi Ristorante has white truffles in and has started serving its all-truffle menu. *insert drooling noise here* DeMontis also has a report on the Gold Medal Plates event.
The feature article at The Globe and Mail is a selection of excerpts from the upcoming book My Last Supper in which celebrity chefs are surveyed on what they'd eat, who the guests might be and what music they'd listen to at their very last meal. Disappointingly, of all the excerpts I've come across online, none seem to includes Anthony Bourdain, who is reported to appear naked but for the ever-present cigarette hanging from his lips and a well-placed hunk of meat. You can't tempt me with an appetizer of Mario Battali sporting kolhrabi on his head when Bourdain's meat is the main course.
On a less X-rated note, The Globe heads to PEI where Chef Michael Smith discusses apples, Alexandra Gill visits a Vancouver Lebanese restaurant, and Beppi Crosariol explores when good wines go bad. There's also... recipes??? In the Globe?? Yeah, for many tasty things to do with pumpkin. They're not attributed to anyone, but there they are. How do you like them pumpkins?

;) I wouldn't recommend publishing the link tho :D
Thanks Lisa, you rock. You just saved me from having to buy the whole book.
How did I not know there was a Bourdain community on LJ?? Like many of the commenters, I find that pic vaguely disturbing. I'm not sure if that's in a good way or a bad way just yet. :)
(Falls out of chair)
Oh geez... I guess that link should come with a "not work safe" warning, huh?
