Living in an era when so many items are disallowed in carry-on luggage when flying, it's still a bit surprising that someone thought to include sour dough bread starter. Which is why the folks from Blog From Our Kitchen put theirs in their checked luggage during a recent flight to BC. Because who travels without their own starter? Still, given the reaction the goopy stuff had to... something - air pressure, maybe - it's probably for the best.
