Rag Round-Up - Thursday, September 6th

newsboy.jpgI wonder if all the TIFF celebrities read the local papers. If they did, they’d have a handy list of all the places to avoid if they want to have a meal without paparazzi and/or stalkers shooting pics of them chowing down. Steven Davey’s got just such a list in his Fresh Dish column at NOW this week. And since he’s included C5 on his list (of course - it’s new, swank, hip, and close to all the hotels where the stars stay) I yet again find my birthday plans thwarted by the film festival. *shakes fist*

For the folks who are really just at the fest to enjoy the films, not the celebrities, Davey reviews Made In China, the newest Asian restaurant from the folks who brought us the Korean Grill House. He’s got great things to say about the tasting menu.

Also in NOW, Graham Duncan equates celebrities with bubbly pink wine and offers up a trio of rosés in his Drink Up column.

Months after we sang the praises of the lovely Indus Junction on Queen West, the mainstream papers are finally discovering the spot. Alan Vernon and Sean Keenan of Eye offer up an effusive review of the place, with much praise for the food, although there are still a few bits that need ironing out.

Billy Munnelly of Metro takes a trip to Niagara and tries and recommends plenty of wines from the region. Aonghus Kealy takes issue with the slice of orange that keeps getting dropped into glasses of Rickard’s White.

Also in Metro, a write-up about Eric Sherman’s Complete Idiot’s Guide to Pizza and Panini, the jist of which is, make it at home! And Rick McGinnis gets his fingers all sticky on the chicken and ribs at Cluck, Grunt and Low.

One final mention today of an article in the Toronto Star. We usually cover the Star on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when their Living section has the most food coverage, but a piece today from the Associated Press on school lunches in other countries really caught my attention. No burgers and fries, no turkey twizzlers. Very interesting.
