What’s Cooking - Wednesday, September 5th

I sat down a few months ago, at the behest of a reader, to write a post about cooking schools in the Toronto area. And then I got overwhelmed by the sheer number of them. The folks at the Toronto Star have more patience than I do, it seems, and this week, they offer up an overwhelmingly comprehensive list of Toronto-area cooking schools. Wow. I mean, holy crap. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone in Toronto to NOT know how to cook!
With so much space dedicated to the cooking school directory, there’s only a couple of other articles this week; Jennifer Bain tracks down burrata, a creamy Italian cheese; and Josh Rubin looks at Rickard’s White, a mainstream wheat-style beer that might just encourage folks to try something new.
At the Globe and Mail, Siri Agrell looks at the frantic preparations as Toronto chefs get ready for the film festival. And four of the regularly contributing chef’s to the Globe’s Life section offer up recipes for back-to-school lunches. Beppi Crosariol looks at a wine glass that breathes.
Joanne Richard of the Toronto Sun interviews the brothers behind Battaglia’s Marketplace for a look at how an independent grocery chain can thrive. And Elizabeth Baird enjoys fresh cauliflower while dishing up some foodie news.
