blog8.jpgEveryone is getting into the Farmer's Market groove this week, and Sands at All Things Dolce has a post not about the stuff she bought, but the cute Ontario farmers she bought it from. I'm delighted to see my favourite guys from Brantview Apples and Cider figuring prominently - these two are charmers and it's absolutely impossible to stop by their booth without coming home with a bushel of apples. Tara of Seven Spoons heads out to St. Jacobs and has some fantastic images of local markets and shops there.

Catherine at Sugar and Ink is setting aside her better judgement to spend an afternoon enjoying funnel cakes, deep-fried chocolate bars and other artery-clogging delights on the CNE midway.

At Jumbo Empanadas, Brilynn writes on "real food" at the behest of a mayonnaise corporation trying to enhance their image and appeal to the SOLE food movement. You might have seen some television spots featuring a rabbit on a bus touting the great thing said mayonnaise company did in creating community gardens. Don't believe the hype - the gardens all come out September 15th (prime growing season still, in some areas) and that corporate mayonnaise company spent waaaay more money on ads telling the world how wonderful they are than the did on the community gardens themselves. That they're now using unsuspecting food bloggers to indirectly sell their product and tout their misleading campaign is really frustrating and annoying. Brilynn's thoughts on real food are interesting and well-written, but I really don't like the way this company is manipulating bloggers for free advertising.

Finally, Ivonne at Cream Puffs in Venice explores the world of food allergies when she agrees to bake a cake for someone with a nut allergy. After disinfecting pretty much her entire kitchen, she has second thoughts about baking for hire. This would be easier in an industrial kitchen, of course, where all surfaces are designed to be easily disinfected, and is in part why it's illegal to run a catering operation from a home kitchen. But you can bet Ivonne is now an expert on peanut allergies.
