Have you thought about your bones lately? Yeah, me neither. At the Toronto Star, Cynthia David explores the world of calcium and Vitamin D, and how to get enough of both. Interestingly, while she does rely on a few dairy based items (despite the sidebar with info provided by the Canadian and Ontario Dairy Farmer's Boards - because they wouldn't have a vested interest in us all drinking milk, would they??), she also recommends a lot of other ways to get enough of these bone-builders that don't rely on the cow juice.
Also in the Star, Tamsyn Burgmann reviews Palm's Court, and John Rubin sips some Chimay White. Amy Pataki reveals her inner Simpson's fan with some quotes about salad and how she won her husband over to the healthy stuff. Jennifer Bain and Susan Sampson get zippy with the corn zipper, and there's also a study showing that low-cal foods may in fact, spark childhood obesity. There's also a selection of various recipes in the sidebar.
At the Globe and Mail, Eric Reguly looks at vineyards in Pompeii, and chef Normand Laprise prepares for the International Garden Festival at the Reford Gardens in Grand-Métis, Quebec by including edible flowers in his dishes. Beppi Crosariol looks at the British cider invasion of Canada and how the various brands compare with Canadian products. Disappointingly, he doesn't include Waupoos, which tends to be the front runner for most cider drinkers I know.
Joanne Richard has got the answer to beat the heat at the Toronto Sun - soup! Cold soups made from a variety of fruits and vegetables, that is. And Elizabeth Baird has plenty of appetizer suggestions to munch on while waiting for the BBQ to fire up.
