Masala! Mehndi! Masti! Yum!

Living just a quick walk from the CNE grounds, we headed down to the M!M!M! festival last night to check out the food vendors before everything got too busy. It was grey and overcast, and felt like we were in for some rain, so the opening acts on the Bandshell stage played to a very small crowd. It’s sure to be packed today and tomorrow though, and if all the performances, readings and vendors don’t entice you, then maybe the food will.

Vendors include Udupi Palace (vegetarian dosa), Komalas, Chandni Chowk, Makkah (Indo-Chinese food, although they were serving only tikka and veg last night), White Gold Sweets, Brar Sweets, Swagat, Chowpatty Chat (serving Bhel Puri) and more.
Health and Safety regulations prohibit unchilled dairy products at events like this, so the sweet places were offering jalebi and ladoo, but no burfi or gulab jamun. We did get mango lassie that was served from a thermos cooler, but the bulk of the business at the Brar and White Gold booths seemed to be in their popular appetizer plates.
We ran out of room before we got to the dosa, so we’ll likely return tomorrow to finish off our rounds of all the food vendors.
Masala! Mehndi! Masti! runs at the CNE bandshell and Better Living centre until Sunday. And a word of warning - those jalebi are huge!
