The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday, July 23rd

webapple.jpgAt Eye this week, the Local is The House on Parliament where "the patrons are rarely the stereotypically nose-up Cabbagetonians — they are unpretentious neighbourhood folk who are happy to share a table or offer food reccomendations, and have been known to all join in on a “Happy Birthday” sing-along." Meanwhile, Catherine Jheon of Beyond Burgers heads down to the Distillery to check out La Creperie.

Torontoist, where all the writers have the odd habit of referring to themselves as "Torontoist" which makes us wonder if they're really just one person or take turns using the company brain, compares ice cream sandwiches, comes up with the promised recap of the Street Treats Fair almost a week after the fact (uhhh... better late than never??), and enjoys the hoardings outside Sassafraz.

At Gremolata, Ivy Knight sips some beer and sake (not together!), and Konrad Ebjich picks Lailey Winyard's 2005 Zweigelt as his pick of the month.

I missed James Chatto's blog entry from last week over at Toronto Life, but it appears that catching a big salmon means eating a lot of salmon. Chatto also visits Indian restaurant Amaya and dishes up some news of openings and closings. Also at Toronto Life, David Lawrason recommends Beaujolais for the BBQ.

Suresh of Spotlight Toronto takes my advice anyway and heads to Tasty Thursdays at Nathan Phillips Square. He also visits Doku 15 for an enjoyable Summerlicious meal.

BlogTO's got a review of Sushi Haru, a look at C5, a profile of St. Lawrence Market and a look at the Dim Sum festival at Harbourfront.

And finally, Posted Toronto finds that there are a lot of health and safety violations taking place at the city's road dog carts. No!! You've got to be kidding??? Who'd have thought that there'd be safety issues with a tube of ground up ears, lips and bums being cooked on the side of the road? All you people whining about the pre-prepared and packed off-site salads slated to be available under the new legislation - take note!

Surely it's not THAT odd that we use the editorial we on Torontoist -- it's just a style that is consistent throughout the Gothamist network, one that we (try to) use sparingly. We have different brains! I swear!

It's not the "we" - it's the third person thing and the occasionally weird context. For instance, "The Torontoist's bike was stolen last night..." makes it sound like you all have one bike that you share. Or "The Torontoist stood in line while other people brought us food," makes me picture the lot of you huddled together. :)

I know it's a standardized style, and I'm just taking the piss a bit, but it reads awkwardly.
