The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday, July 9th

webapple.jpgFood news at Eye this week includes a blurb about Harvest Wednesdays, the upcoming Dim Sum Festival and a blueberries vs. Alzheimer’s smackdown. There’s also a Summerlicious review of Globe Bistro, and this week’s Local is the Tranzac Club.

Torontoist has a list of upcoming cultural festivals (and in foodie talk “culture” = “grub”), and instructions on making homemade frozen lollies to beat the heat.

At Beyond Burgers, Catherine Jheon visits the Trinity-Bellwoods Farmer’s Market, while at Spotlight Toronto Suresh visits Indian Rice Factory for ho-hum food but a magnificent garden patio. And newcomer on the blogging scene Posted Toronto (a division of the National Post) hops on the street food bandwagon with a best and worst list of Toronto’s street foods.

James Chatto of Toronto Life dedicates a good portion of his review of C5 to the age-old question that plagues us all - what wine to serve with Mimolette? Personally I prefer mine unencumbered. Speaking of wine, David Lawrason discusses the work of tasting 40 or more wines a day for the upcoming TL Food and Wine Guide.

And at BlogTO, they preview the Night Market that took place this past weekend, discuss the changes to Provincial legislation of street food, and review Amaya, and Pho Vietnam.

  1. Suresh Says:

Speaking of “cultural” festivals, I’m curious as to why a lot of people choose to ignore the food and music of Afrofest…which is over now.
I was talking to a few friends about this the other day on how Afrofest always gets snubbed every while other festivals like Corso, beats, and Fring get top mention. ??? I don’t get it.
It’s the same with the Torontoist link.

We went to AfroFest for the first time this year. I’ve got photos at SaveYourfork.com

I think most people just don’t know about it - it’s not really promoted outside of the African and Caribbean communities. But we had an awesome time - the music was great and the food was some of the best I’ve had at an event like that.

We only stayed for an hour or so because we also wanted to hit the (very disappointing) Corso Italia fest, but next year, it’s on the schedule for a full day.

Also makes me wonder why more stuff isn’t held at Queen’s Park - it’s an awesome space.
