The Wide, Wide World of Web - Monday, June 18th

webapple.jpgIn their online column The Local, Eye takes a look at Rok Boutique this week. As much as it looks like a fun and cool place to hang out (because even though I was a gothy punk in the 80s, there was always room for "The Guns and Rose" or Faster Pussycat) I don't know that it's actually been around long enough to be anybody's "local". Mind you, with most of Generation X speeding towards an inevitable midlife crisis, and since we'd all look silly hanging out at the Fabricland at Yonge & Bloor in lycra pants and fringe boots reminiscing about when the space was Rock and Roll Heaven, Rok Boutique might just become the local for a lot of old rock farts very quickly.

At Torontoist, they've got info on the Trinity-Bellwoods Farmer's Market, Dan Aykroyd's winery (so he can join Madonna, Barry Manilow and Cliff Richards in putting his name on bottles of plonk), the closing of Narula's and the veggie-downsizing of the Gerrard strip, and the announcement of the Golden Tap Awards voting period (which you'd think, given that our news writer is also the news editor for Bar Towel, we'd have scooped first!). D'oh!

Sarah from BlogUT find the campus inundated with ice cream carts selling samples of vanilla beer ice cream. Is that a university student's dream or what? Meanwhile, Catherine Jheon of Beyond Burgers enjoys a burger at the Burger Shoppe. Funny, huh?

We hope Suresh of Spotlight Toronto didn't actually head down to Sunnyside for the non-existent wingfest mentioned in his preview last week. Turns out it was cancelled and postponed until next year. He also continues his search for good Mexican food and visits Quesada at King and Church. Should I tell him about the awesome authentic Mexican food I had on the weekend?

Gina Mallet of The National Post has her own blog now, and she's quite a prolific poster. Some hilights; Salt Spring Island cheese, the health and safety violations at Mario Batali's NYC restaurants, and info on the Mildred Pierce world record brunch.

Over at Toronto Life, James Chatto appears to go a bit loopy when there's no food news to relate, and finds himself talking to the moon and eating coconut popsicles. Hey, what's weird about that? Also at Toronto Life, David Lawrason discusses Ontario wine week.

At BlogTO, they review Urban Herbivore, burritos at Mexitaco and Burro Burrito, and tapas at Julie's, while Tim visits Food Studio, the new cafeteria-style eatery at the ROM.

Ha hah! Not until I post a review of the place, my friend. ;)
