Apparently standing over the fiery coals of the barbeque grill is a man's job, one that not many women aspire to. Jennifer Bain of the Toronto Star interviews female grillmasters set to compete with the guys. Also in the Star, Susan Sampson's got recipes from the Silver Palate cookbook which turns 25 this year, and Amy Pataki shares her love of all things mocha. Gordon Stimmell discusses how to age New World reds, and Josh Rubin lists the highs and lows of the
At The Sun Rita DeMontis is gearing up for the Taste of Little Italy with an article about Italian food and customs. Elizabeth Baird discusses herbs and dishes to cook with them.
There's no real Toronto-specific stuff in the Globe and Mail's Food and Wine section this week, but still... I think the first Canadian-made buffalo mozzarella is worth a mention. Likewise Cinda Chavich's piece on eel.
The Globe's also got some cooking tips from chef Michael Smith (such as ditch your recipe books), but the photo in the sidebar to accompany the piece is of style writer Russell Smith, which led me to believe that it was going to be an article about how the well-dressed gentlemen would never be seen with a cook book in his house. Also in the sidebar articles, dietician Leslie Beck (who may or may not be blonde, because who knows if that's really her in the photo) points out that salads from fast-food chains are loaded in fat. Did people really not already know that? And finally, Beppi Crosariol writes about Church and State winery in British Columbia.
