Most craft beer aficionados - including myself - are generally pretty dismissive when it comes to the so-called "Pride of Nova Scotia", Keith's IPA. It galls our geeky little brains that it claims to be an India Pale Ale when it's clearly not, and that so many people think they're drinking a hand-crafted beer brewed in a traditional style when it's really just another industrial macrobrew from Labatt's.
That being said, there are some situations where it's perfectly acceptable - if not almost mandatory - to be seen with a bottle of Keith's in your hand. One of them is a good ol' East Coast lobster boil. And while it's hard to replicate the true spirit of a down home lobster party this far away from the Atlantic, the folks behind Toronto's Festival of Beer will be trying their best to do so tomorrow night at Next Level, the private banquet facility at The Docks (11 Polson Street), when they present Alexander Keith’s Lobster Bash.
Event attendees will be served a full lobster dinner - including one 1lb fresh Atlantic Ocean Harvest lobster with drawn butter, homemade bread, a choice of fresh coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob and dessert - plus two Keith's to wash it all down. There will also be a "Lobster 101" demonstration by Bill Hennessey of Atlantic Ocean Harvest for those who need some help cracking their dinner open, and live music until midnight.
On top of all that, the $50 ticket price includes a complimentary pass good for admission to Toronto's Festival of Beer at Fort York on Friday, August 10th or Sunday, August 12th, which is a $20 value. So you're basically getting a lobster dinner, two beers and entertainment for 30 bucks - what's not to like??
