This week, on the Toronto Life website, Chris Nuttall-Smith warns us to be careful of what we wish for. Turns out some Toronto chefs participating in the upcoming street food fair to take place this July are taking their mission quite seriously and plan to serve authentic street food - like tripe. We advise attendees to keep an eye out for Chef Chris MacDonald from Cava, and to ask lots of questions before ordering.
Also at Toronto Life, James Chatto paints an amusing picture on his blog as he describes yesterday's Wild Leek Festival at Michael Stadtländer’s Eigensinn Farm. Imagine wandering through the woods to come across Hiro Yoshida of Hiro Sushi serving smoked Spanish mackerel. I have dreams like that. David Lawrason discusses Toronto wine events (of which there are many), and the private ordering system at the LCBO.
Catherine Jheon of Beyond Burgers reviews Organic Sunny Cafe, that little cafe tucked into the corner of Noah's at Bloor and Spadina. It's been there for 14 years but many people aren't even aware of its existence.
Suresh of Spotlight Toronto reviews the newest location of Korean Grill House at Yonge and Dundas. His impression - the food was awful and not nearly as good as the Queen Street location. However given the Queen West restaurant got dinged with a whole mess of food safety violations ("Operator fail to prevent gross unsanitary conditions") at the end of February, it might be an idea to give the whole chain a wide berth.
At Eye, Edward Keenan has much praise for the Victory Cafe on Markham Street, while at BlogUT, there's fancy sushi from Ematei.
Butler's Pantry gets a sparkly review at BlogTO where Tanja creates a food porn sensation with a plethora of photos of everything from the Sheperd's Pie to a blue drink that someone insists on calling a martini (argh!). There is a less glittery (only one ellipses!), but no less praiseful review of C'est What? as well.
