Adios, Amato

adios_amato.jpgStrolling along Queen West this afternoon, Sheryl and I were surprised to find the original location of Amato Pizza near Queen & Bathurst was shuttered due to non-payment of rent. (Although given the pizza chain’s alleged history of non-payment, I suppose we shouldn’t have been too surprised.)

We can only imagine how happy the owners of the Pizzaiolo locations across the street and a block or so west must be…

Greg, there are six, count ‘em six (at least!), Amato’s recently closed. One on St. Clair, one on Yonge St., two on Queen Street and two others that I’ve recently come across. I wonder if they are all closing for some reason?

Ah, I knew that the location across from City/Much had closed, but I didn’t know about the others. I also found a BlogTO post from last October that mentions one of the locations changing names from Amato to Madanto. Looks like maybe the whole chain has gone tits up. Can’t say that I’ll miss them, really - the quality of the pizza had really gone downhill, and since I don’t do the clubs any more, I don’t need that 2 AM pizza fix as often as I used to. ;)
