As usual, I’m sitting at my computer with a cup of coffee in hand. Unlike my university years of burnt stomach wrenching stuff I liked to call coffee, it’s actually fresh and tasty! Yesterday I received a freshly roasted pound of Costa Rican Tarrazu from Dark City Coffee.
Though not a coffee shop in the traditional sense, Dark City Coffee provides home delivery service to all us coffee lovers in the Greater Toronto Area. Ordering from Dark City Coffee gets you high quality beans, or so my taste buds tell me, and they custom roast them for you right before sending it out. Placing an order before noon on Monday through Thursday will have it arrive at your door the next workday.
Normally when you call Dark City Coffee, you’ll be asked to leave a message. Don’t let that deter you though because they get back to you quickly and walk you through the confusing process that coffee choosing can be. They are very flexible with orders, roasting beans exactly to your liking, and are willing to create custom blends. The minimum order is one pound of coffee, and with the order of two pounds or more you receive free shipping. Most of the prices are around $15 - $20 per pound, but can range up to $50 for rare coffees such as the Jamaican Blue Mountain.
The ordering process if fairly simple. Once you’re a customer you just call and leave a message with your name, number, type of coffee, roast preference and what type of grind you’d like. My custom order is the Costa Rican Tarrazu roasted slightly darker than medium and ground for a paper filter coffee maker. Usually I order a pound at a time and it runs me around $18 including delivery.
With the wide variety of coffee available, including organic fair trade certified blends, Dark City Coffee is bound to have the blend you’re seeking. For those feeling overwhelmed with the selection, their online catalog will show a description for each blend when you mouse over the name. Their selection, along with their commitment to quality and service is bound to impress! As a self admitted coffee lover, I highly recommend trying out Dark City Coffee for your home coffee needs.
