If you're interested in flicks related to food and food politics, you may want to plan for a couple of outings in the next little while:
On Saturday March 10th, The Jewish Nature Centre of Canada, Planet in Focus and Corporate Knights are co-presenting the North American premiere of How To Save The World, a documentary about farmers in India standing up to multinational corporations through organic farming. The screening will take place at 9:30 PM at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor Street West), and admission is $10.
Around the corner at the Brunswick Theatre (296 Brunswick Avenue), a new cinema devoted primarily to political documentaries, they have several food-related films on the schedule:
- The Future of Food: "An in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled grocery store shelves for the past decade." Screenings on Friday March 9th through Sunday March 11th at 9:30 PM, and Monday March 12th through Wednesday March 14th at 7:00 PM.
- Thirst: "A film about water privatization [...] reveals how water is becoming the catalyst for explosive community responses to the management of this precious resource." Screenings on Sunday March 11th & Saturday March 17th at 4:30 PM, and Sunday March 25th at 2:00 PM.
- Big Sugar: "Explores the dark history and modern power of the world's reigning sugar cartels." Screenings on Thursday March 15th at 7:00 PM, Friday March 16th through Sunday March 18th at 9:30 PM, and Monday March 19th through Wednesday March 21st at 7:00 PM.
Tickets to all Brunswick Theatre screenings are $10.
