beerguy.jpgWhile cold weather and beer may not seem to be the best pairing, some local establishments are hoping to show that it's one that works with some unique beer-themed events over the next couple of weeks.

On Wednesday, February 14th, Volo will be presenting a romantic four course dinner for $36 with beer or wine pairings available for an additional $12. Seatings are at 6:30 & 9:30, and reservations are required. They'll also be serving up oysters and stouts at the bar, including Black Oak’s cask conditioned Chocolate Cherry Stout.

The following Wednesday, February 21st, The Bar Towel is teaming up with C'est What for a Winter Warmers tasting night. Eight to ten local holiday/seasonal beers will be served in a blind tasting format, and everyone who hands in their rating forms will be entered into a draw for a "pool party" for 12, including two hours of pool at two tables as well as appetizers for all. Tickets at $15, and can be ordered now via the C'est What website.

Then on Tuesday, February 27th, Fine Beers Agency and beerbistro will be welcoming Brooklyn Brewery's Garrett Oliver (brewmaster) and Eric Ottaway (general manager) for a dinner that will pair Brooklyn beers with the food of chef Brian Morin. In addition to overseeing the beers at Brooklyn, Oliver is also a world-renowned expert on beer and food pairing, with his book The Brewmaster's Table being a bible to many beer-friendly chefs, so this is bound to be a great night. Tickets are $75 and are available now at the restaurant.

Finally, it's back to Volo on the weekend of March 4th & 5th for the IPA Challenge. Attending hopheads will be booked into a half-hour slot sometime between 12 and 5 PM, and will get to sample six different local IPAs in a blind tasting, with prizes for those who can guess the identity of all six. Tickets are $12, and can be reserved by contacting info@barvolo.com or 416.928.0008.
